What To Pack For A Beach Journey

Editorial Team3 min readLast Updated:

Traveling for a getaway can make us forget everything, but there are a few things you shouldn’t overlook while packing for the trip. Poor packing can leave you in an unpleasant situation. So today, we’ll walk you through what to pack for a trip to the beach so you can enjoy your getaway in style.

What To Pack For A Trip To The Beach

Packing for a vacation can often feel tedious. Beyond the excitement of the trip, it becomes difficult to decide what to bring or leave behind, and we often end up forgetting a favorite outfit or something essential. Because of this, we recommend making a packing list for the beach before you start packing.

Documents

Your personal documents should be kept separate from the rest of your luggage. Carry your ID, credit cards, driver’s license, and any other documents you need in one bag. If you’re traveling by plane, include your tickets, passport, hotel reservation confirmations, and transportation vouchers in this group. If you’re traveling within Europe, don’t forget your European Health Insurance Card.

The Right Clothing

You likely won’t need formal outfits if you’re headed to the beach — one of the most popular getaway destinations. Because of that, prioritize the clothes you’ll actually need. Pack shorts, Bermuda shorts, light dresses, t-shirts, blouses, and lightweight clothing in general. The key is choosing breathable fabrics like linen, cotton, or microfiber to keep you comfortable in the heat and humidity.

Don’t forget your swimwear, either. Pack a few swimsuits depending on how many days you’ll spend near the water. We also recommend packing a UV-protection shirt, especially useful for long days in the sun, particularly if you’re traveling with kids.

Personal Hygiene

Bring a small bag to carry all your personal hygiene items. This list will help you make sure you have everything you’ll need:

  • A travel toothbrush with its own case.
  • Shampoo, conditioner, and soap.
  • Antiperspirant or deodorant.
  • Sunscreen.
  • Moisturizer or after-sun lotion.
  • Toothpaste.
  • A comb or brush.
  • Razors and shaving cream.

Accessories

Although most resorts provide towels, it’s best to bring your own. That way you can take them out of your room, bring them to the beach, and not worry about getting them sandy.

Also, don’t forget to pack caps, hats, and sunglasses in your travel bag. Similarly, choose comfortable shoes that won’t get damaged by salt spray.

For jewelry, keep it simple and avoid high-value pieces, since it’s common to lose jewelry at the beach. It’s also worth packing a waterproof bag to carry your belongings when you’re near the water.

Also bring along a bag for wet clothes. If you have the space, pack a few entertainment items too, like a book or a tablet — though you may want to keep the tablet in your carry-on.

If Traveling With Kids

If you have kids, you’ll need to take extra precautions and add a few more items to your packing list. Be sure to include snacks, pacifiers (if they use them), bottles, wet wipes, a first aid kit, toys, clothing, and toiletries. It’s best to pack your child’s items in a separate suitcase or bag.

These are essential items for beach vacations that shouldn’t be overlooked. If you’re flying, remember that there’s usually a maximum weight limit for luggage.
